This cigar with its smooth, oily wrapper leaf has been rolled superbly and finished off with a perfectly round cap. In its unlit state, the Robusto is very much a ‘summer’ cigar, having an aroma reminiscent of a sun-baked woodland glade or an apiary with woody and grassy scents particularly pronounced and the overriding smell of honeycombs. Its unlit taste shows a prevalence of earthy tones and a certain acidity.
The first third of the cigar – the ‘warming up’ stage – gives only a promise of what is to come and the aromatic bouquet is fairly simple. The real taste and aroma are only revealed in the second third, where the cigar shows the full range of its noble palette in all its glory. The earthiness in the taste becomes richer and is set off by the woody and coffee-flavoured tones. The dominant aroma of burning pine logs reveals soft, unobtrusive animal scents. It’s worth making a special point of the fact that the taste builds up evenly, and this fairly strong cigar leaves no bitterness. Burning speed and draw are optimal.
The aftertaste is equally delightful with its ideal combination of length and variety of shades.
