year ago the Cubans brought out an edition of super-cigars – the Cohiba
Seleccion Reserva. Thirty cigars of five different formats were packed
in an individual humidor. Two of the formats were exclusive and not part
of the companies’ main brands. These were the Piramide and the Media
Corona. Apart from the three fermentations, which are characteristic
of all Cohiba lines, the cigars in the Reserva series use only tobacco
that has matured for a period of three years.
The price of the box in Europe instantly topped the ˆ1,000 mark. And
once connoisseurs had assessed the quality, there was an immediate shortage
on the market, as demand exceeded supply. Very likely this was the reason
why the Cohiba Seleccion Reserva cigars took such a long time getting
to Russia.
We decided not only to test the new cigars, but to compare them with
the regular brands. We were also tempted to test a combination of the Cohiba
super-cigars and the Cohiba super-cognac, which, its creators claim,
is ideally suited to Havanas of the same brand.
